Spirit Energy[/u]
Spirit energy is possessed by every living thing with a soul in some quantity. Plants and demons do not have spirit energy. Humans, aliens and animals do. In order to harness spirit energy one must be very spiritually aware, meaning you must be sensitive to the presence of ghosts and spirits. Unlike Ki, it can be harnessed into anything from plant manipulation and shapeshifting to blasts of raw power. However, one spiritually aware individual's "nich", if you will, is different from the next. It is much easier to learn a different technique (ex, if you can channel spirit energy into fire, it would be difficult, but possible, for you to learn how to channel it into ice as well) with spirit energy than with demon energy, though it is possible.
Demon Energy[/u]
Very similar to spirit energy, however, only demons can weild it. It is the most diverse of all the energies and it's different categories are mostly hereditary. Fire demons, for example, are born with the ability to manipulate and tolerate heat. Some types of demon energy techniques can be learned, but others are customary to that individual/clan of demons.
Ki
Ki, while the least diverse, is the most powerful. Life energy, it is also called, it is initially spirit energy on a more advanced and different parallel of the evolutionary line. It can be channeled into heat, electricity, flight, or raw attacks (howbeit a plethora of them). Though one does not necessarily have to be in tune with the occult in order to weild it. You must have the genetics in order to manifest ki energy into something you can actually use, but those who have it are able to build it through training, some races moreso than others. The use of ki is rare in humans. But it can be used by both mortals and some demons.
DEMON WORLD & OTHER WORLD

THE MAKAI
Or "demon world", as we know it is the first level of earth's hell and a separate dimension. There are many different levels; the deeper you go, the worse it gets and the more powerful the demons are. Mortal souls who are condemned to hell go to a much lower level than the Makai we know, some souls lower than others depending on their crimes. However, the supernatural barriers set between the levels are nigh impossible to cross.
As a mortal, human or alien, if you enter into the Makai or any level of hell, the very air itself is toxic to breathe and will eat away at your flesh unless you have a considerably high level of spirit or ki energy. Normal humans/aliens who enter into the makai for any amount of time and are snatched from it before their deaths will most likely be bed ridden and will experience hallucination and other odd, frightening side effects until the toxins leave their bodies.
There are different demon worlds for each planet.
SPIRIT WORLD[/u]
Or "Other World", as DBZ calls it, is the land of the spirits. This is where Prince Koenma, Ogre, Boton, King Yemma and the Kis reside. When characters die, their souls come here to be judged, then sent to hell (lower levels of the Makai) or heaven (higher level of spirit world). This is also the location of the infamous "Snake Way".
